Etched Plaques Materials
|
Maximum
etching size for a single sheet is 48" x 144". However, materials
are purchased in the sheet sizes listed below. Contact us for requirements
that exceed these sizes. Unless noted, these are the available thicknesses for all materials.

Commercial Bronze
is a very close color match to the cast bronze alloy. When using etchings
for mounting to a bronze plaque, we will automatically choose Commercial
Bronze for the etched piece. If etchings and castings are being used
together on the same project, specify Commercial Bronze.
|
 |
When Copper, Muntz
Metal, Yellow Brass and Commercial Bronze are specified for exterior use,
we recommend a polyurethane coating. For exterior applications that must
stand the test of time, we recommend etched stainless steel or cast bronze
plaques.
|
 |
Stainless Steel
etchings are not protected by a clear coating and are ideal for exterior
use. For exterior applications, Alloy 316 may be more resistant to
corrosion in certain types of environments and is available as a special
priced option.
|
 |
Magnesium should
not be used outdoors or where it may be exposed to weather conditions.
|
NOTES: Metals are selected to be compatible
with the architectural decor or coloring. The use of copper is basically
aesthetic, since it is such a red metal in appearance. Magnesium is often used
because it is extremely lightweight and can be deep-etched for ADA signs. Zinc
can also be deep-etched very nicely and it is fine for exterior use.
The various brass alloys
such as Yellow Brass, Muntz Metal and Commercial Bronze are desirable primarily
because of the material color and how it would look in the environment it is
used. Brass is the most yellow in color. Muntz Metal is a little redder in tone.
Commercial Bronze is redder still. Commercial Bronze is the closest color to
Cast Bronze. Copper is the reddest of the metals.
