Helpful Hints

bullet

Commercial Bronze is a close color match to cast bronze alloy. When using etchings for mounting to a cast bronze plaque, choose Commercial Bronze for etched.

bullet

When Copper, Yellow Brass and Commercial Bronze are specified for exterior use, we recommend a polyurethane coating. For exterior applications that must stand the test of time, use etched stainless steel or cast bronze plaques.

bullet

Stainless Steel etchings are not protected by a clear coating and are ideal for exterior use. For exterior applications, Alloy 316 may be more resistant to corrosion in certain types of environments and is available as a special priced option.

NOTES: Metals are selected to be compatible with the architectural decor or coloring. The use of copper is basically aesthetic, since it is such a red metal in appearance. Zinc can be deep-etched nicely and it is fine for exterior use.

The various brass alloys such as Yellow Brass and Commercial Bronze are desirable primarily because of the material color and how it would look in the environment it is used. Brass is the most yellow in color. Commercial Bronze is redder. Copper is the reddest of metals.
